Set of 4 Cesca Chairs by Marcel Breuer – Gavina Production

An absolute masterpiece of Bauhaus design, the Cesca Chair is one of the most iconic chairs of the 20th century. Designed by Marcel Breuer in 1928, this famous cantilever chair revolutionizes the traditional concept of seating through the use of chromed tubular steel, transforming an industrial material into an elegant, light and profoundly modern element.

The proposed set includes four Gavina-produced pieces from the late 1960s, now among the most sought-after versions by collectors for their construction quality and extraordinary faithfulness to Breuer's original design. Gavina's production, under the direction of Dino Gavina and with the cultural contribution of Carlo Scarpa, represents one of the highest points of Italian modern design manufacturing.

The chrome-plated steel cantilever structure creates a refined suspension effect, while the dialogue between metal, black lacquered wood, and Vienna straw embodies the formal purity of Bauhaus aesthetics. The Cesca still manages to combine visual lightness, comfort, and technical innovation in a surprisingly contemporary way.

This set retains important authenticity details typical of vintage Gavina productions: under the wooden frames, the original traces of the hand-woven cane are still visible, testifying to the original craftsmanship. Three seats also retain the original Gavina adhesive labels, while the closed ends of the chromed tubes confirm the quality of the historical production compared to subsequent versions.

The chairs have undergone a thorough professional conservative restoration. The chromed structure is solid and shiny, with slight signs of time consistent with age. The black lacquered beech frames have been restored while maintaining the original character of the piece. The Vienna straw on the seats has been completely replaced to ensure strength and durability, while the backrests are in excellent condition.
